ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Manipur Centre, Lamphelpat, Imphal organized “One Day Farmers' Conclave cum Kisan Mela” on 25th April 2025.
The programme was graced by Shri. Peter Salam, Director, Department of Agriculture, Government of Manipur as the Chief Guest. Shri. K. Debadutta Sharma, Director, Dept. of Horticulture & Soil Conservation,
Govt. of Manipur as Guest of Honour. Dr. Ch. Basudha Devi, Head of Regional Centre ICAR RC for NEH Region, Manipur Centre, as the presidium member and Dr. Vinay Kumar Mishra, Director, ICAR RC NEH Region,
Umiam, Meghalaya as the President.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri. Peter Salam stated that ICAR Manipur Centre is playing a knowledge partner of state Agriculture Department and requested ICAR
to undertake high-end research relating to climate change and its mitigation for the state.
Shri. K Debadutta Sharma expressed the need to establish KVKs in the new districts of the state. He opined that the wetland areas in the state along with the
indigenous aquatic plants are valuable resources that need to be conserved. Initiatives need to be taken to explore the commercial and economic potential of these aquatic plants like Lotus, Makhana, Water mimosa, etc.
Dr. Ch. Basudha Devi highlighted that ICAR Manipur Centre has developed and promoted a number of farmer friendly technologies that help to increase the livelihood
and income of the farmers. The Centre has also supported and given technical guidance to various agri entrepreneurs of the state to upscale their business.
Dr. Vinay Kumar Mishra emphasized that rice fallow is a major reason for the low cropping intensity of the state. In order to increase cropping intensity and adopt
year-round crop cultivation there is a need to popularise the various farming practices like zero tillage cultivation, jalkund, crop rotation, Integrated Farming System, etc. Good quality planting materials needs
to be developed and made available to the farmers to enhance the productivity of crops.
An exhibition was also held showcasing the various technologies and products of agri-entreprenurs, innovative farmers, Farmer Producer Organization, etc. During the
programme various critical inputs were distributed to the farmers coming from various districts of the state.
